Sergeant Hack was born in a certain town in Kentucky, but he later moved to Louisville after a few years. During the year 1957, he applied for the Coast Guard of the United States at a very young age of seventeen. There he served for about four years. In 1964, he joined the Army and volunteered himself for Ranger Preparation. He passed through several recruiters until he finally reached Fort Benning, GA, particularly in the Ranger Department. In 1965, he was put on track for his Ranger School Preparation. He was designated to serve at Eglin Air Force Base, FL as the Harbor Craft Boatswain.
He was capable of supporting about 20 Ranger School preparation cycles for almost 21 days and one month for two long years, yet he was still hoping that his start date might come as well. Hence, his passion to reach his dream landed second place due to the requirements of the Army. He served loyally the Army and prepared some young soldiers for battle in Vietnam.
In his 24 months of support in Ranger training, he was not able to complete it and never wore a Ranger Tab. He was disappointed that he never got his most desired class date and never got the opportunity to earn his Tab. Still, he realized the essence of his training responsibilities and became proud of his two years duty with the brigade.
Sergeant Hack joined to First Infantry Division later on where he served as the sergeant in the Big Red One in a place called Lai Khe, Vietnam. In 1968, he was given the award of Purple Heart for having battle wounds that ended his career in military. He got many injuries for two varied occasions.
He spent an entire year in a US Army hospital and was placed on medical hold for three more years. When he recovered, he was assigned as a recruiter in a town in Akron, Cuyahoga Falls and in Tallmadge, Ohio. He gained a nationwide recognition as a top recruiter.
A special Corvette, a shirt and a custom jeep was among the items that he used for recruiting. Because of these, he was proclaimed as top recruiter in the years 1969 until 1973. A museum in Fort Campbell, Kentucky is used to display the jeep which he used.
A few years after his retirement, he then served in the Police Department of Hudson. He was designated in a certain Summit Region Sheriff Department. He stopped his police vocation as the Chief of Police in a certain town in Sebring, Ohio.
In 1985, he started the US Wings with his beloved wife. It is a company that is operated by the family which is based on Boston Heights. They supplied Bomber jackets and some aviation gears to several armed forces division.
Sergeant Hack became a Life Member of the 101st Airborne Division, the first Infantry Division, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police. In the year 2011, he was then formally presented with some awards such as Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal and Army Recruiter Badge. He also received honors at a certain ceremony that was held by the congressman of Ohio named Steven La Tourette.
